Moving Considerations
Considerations When Moving to Wales
If you are moving to Wales from other areas of the UK then you won't necessarily find any problems with your move. Things in Wales work in much the same way as things in the rest of the United Kingdom. There are, however, a few things to consider:
- Language - Welsh is still taught in schools - this is a compulsory subject until children reach 16. Some schools (at all levels) will, in fact do all of their primary teaching in the Welsh language. It is also still spoken by certain locals although everybody speaks English as well. If you want to brush up your Welsh skills then there is a dedicated Welsh TV channel!
- Location - Wales can feel quite rural if you are used to living in a town or city especially outside its own major cities and towns. This is often, however, a benefit as you can enjoy some fantastic landscapes and natural features such as mountains and coastlines.
- Tourism - Wales is an extremely popular tourist destination and, if you move to certain places permanently, you may find that they are over-crowded in the summer months but fairly secluded during the winter.
- Culture - the Welsh are proud of the country and their history and the country is full of cultural events and traditions to celebrate this.
